![]() I liked the original “Delta Force” movie with Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin. But the sad reality of these 5 movie set tragedies is most certainly heartbreaking. Unfortunately there were several of these to pick from so I won’t say this is the definitive list. The five tragedies caught headlines and changed lives. Unfortunately there have been instances of real life tragedy that makes us wonder if it’s all worth it. So much time and effort are put into making the movies that we watch and talk about. This week I’m taking a more somber tone and looking at some of the saddest moments in filmmaking. Others have focused on actors, actresses, or different movie years. And so far, 19 movies later, I’m still hanging around.A lot of my Phenomenal 5 lists have been fun, playful, or downright silly. I wanted to do action films with martial arts inserted. And if I started doing Kung Fu movies, my career would be short-lived. At first it was only released in China but then when my career took off, they brought it over here, dubbed it in English and released it as ‘Slaughter In San Francisco.’ But I never wanted to get put in that category because I knew that Kung Fu movies had a limited run. “But I only did one Chinese movie, which was called ‘Yellow-faced Tiger.’ I regret it to this day. “I immediately got labeled as ‘Kung-Fu’ Chuck Norris,” he recalls with disdain. His debut was as Bruce Lee’s adversary in “Return of the Dragon.” Norris got into acting on the advice of one of his karate students, Steve McQueen. Let’s see what he does with 14 or 15 movies, then we’ll talk about him.” He hasn’t reached (Stallone and Schwarzenegger’s) level yet. You do what you do best and concentrate on that. “A lot of people say to me, ‘Don’t you feel competitive against Arnold and Sly?’ But you really shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone. But I read all these articles where he says he hates me and hates my movies. Seagal - I don’t know what his problem is. He used to train with me when he first came over from Brussels. “But, yes, I see myself in guys like Jean Claude Van Damme, who’s 30. “Steve’s not that young - he’s almost 40,” Norris scolds gently. Now, I’d like kids to become heroes within my image.”ĭoes Norris see himself in younger martial artists/actors like Steven Seagal? When I was growing up, John Wayne was my hero. “I’ve been an action hero a lot longer than Sly,” says the Oklahoma-born Norris. Some macho stars like Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood bristle at being typecast as action heroes. They were digging trash and it hurt because no one deserved that.” I chose not to talk to them because I could see what they were digging up. No one was at fault.”Īs for his response to Premiere’s coverage, Aaron adds, “There was a lot of sensationalism in that story. Aaron Norris disagrees: “It was a sad, unfortunate accident. It was just God’s will that I wasn’t on it or Aaron wasn’t on it.”Ī recent story about the copter crash in Premiere magazine speculated that safety was a low priority on the “Delta Force 2” set. ![]() I’d just left the set about a half hour (before the crash). We’d all been on the helicopter the day it went down. All the guys that died were guys I’d worked with for the last six years. It was nothing like the ‘Twilight Zone’ thing.”Īsked if he has any lingering thoughts about the accident, Norris says, “Yes, of course. “All the shot called for was the helicopter to lift off. “This was not a stunt,” says Chuck Norris about the incident. Since the accident, Cannon Films, as well as Aaron Norris, have been sued by the families of the survivors. Four crew members died in the crash, which injured four others. “I said, ‘You’ve got to learn to sky-dive and mountain climb, buddy.’ It was okay, though, because he’s a very, very physical person - he enjoys these kinds of things.”ĭuring the filming of “Delta Force 2” a helicopter crashed near an unfinished hilltop mansion in the Philippines mountain resort city of Tagaytay, where much of the movie was shot. “I sent my brother out to work even before we started shooting the movie,” says director Aaron Norris. Norris needed to be in good shape for “Delta Force 2,” which he calls “the most physical film I’ve ever done.” The star was required to sky-dive and mountain climb, two activities he claims never to have attempted before. Age only becomes a detriment when you let it become a detriment.” The actor credits his martial-arts training with giving him “the endurance and stamina to do a lot of the things I want to do.
